Get to know Grand Rapids (and the world)

Interesting Reads, April 30

As I said, I’ll start posting my interesting reads of the day.

Here is the first issue:

The World’s Greatest Con Man: Helg Sgarbi

This guy was a crazy gigolo who seduced some of the richest cougars in Europe, then convinced them to give him money without asking. Then he got caught. Not without screwing a lot of other people over.

Life Lessons with Kareem

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote a nice piece of 20 things he wished he knew when he was 30 for Esquire. Surprised at some of these, like be more outgoing, dude is one of the all-time greatest basketball players ever! I’ll be using No. 2 later this week or next week (Ask about family history).

‘Kim Jong-Ale’

Apparently, North Korea has quite the craft beer scene. Most of the beer is steam beer, similar to Anchor Steam, but they also have a variety of others, but mostly no lagers. If you like beer, this is an interesting read of how a country with little has a lot of beer.

Lost city of Heracleion gives up its secrets

I’m fascinated by ancient history. And the ocean. So when an ancient city is well-preserved in the ocean, it’s quite amazing. History is just so neat.

A house on the river

This story has scarred me. It’s about the Petit Family Murders, and how the dad is recovering. It’s pretty phenomenal. I don’t know how he does it.
